Georgia Jagger

Last summer I interned for a bit at my friends moms art studio, The Kristi Stubbs Gallery, in Dallas. Since the first day I was obsessed with the pieces from Georgia Jagger. Georgia is one of the many daughters of Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall. She is extremely younger then myself, being born in 1992, yet she has already produced interesting art photography that is being sold by millions. Her photography is called chromogenic prints. It is printed from a chromogenic color negative which consists of dyes within gelatin layers on a plastic-coated paper base. With these types of prints the color is extremely changed, either making it darker, lighter, washed out, or plastic looking. The first pieces of the roses is my favorite. Yet I am sure the original is an extremely basic photo, making it a chromogenic changes the colors and appearance extremely. The second picture labeled, "Poppies" is also available in many different colors. It defiantly is more of an edgy piece with the drug needles included. I like her basic pieces. Taking a photograph of a more complex item and changing it through chromogenic print would be too much and over powering. I know that she is getting popular in the modeling world, but hopefully she will keep exploring with her photography skills.

Hermes

Even though Hermes is not considered an artist, or painting and is not relative to the art work i see considered it is. Hermes is a French high fashion house that was established in 1837. It started as to make products for horse riders. It produces beautiful crocodile, alligator even shark bags that have been given the names of world known actors such as the Berkin bag for Jane Berkin and the Kelly bag for Grace Kelly. They produce leather goods and colorful enamel bracelets. But what I consider as art for them are their scarfs. All over the world they have fifty designers who are in charge of illustrating these scarfs.
There themes range from horse bits to arabian elephants to seashells from the ocean. They basically focus on horses and military arms. One could not walk into the store and not have a scarf they relate too. They have scarfs for every occasion. The colors of the silk are fabulous. You can choose from deep purples to a rose colored red. The silk is woven from the silk of 250 mulberry moth cocoons. The illustrations are my favorite. Some are very modest and others are very psychedelic. All of them are extremely valuable with being 350$ and up. They are keepsakes that are usually passed down through families. One day I hope to be a Hermes designer and contribute my drawings to the scarfs.

frida

Mexican art is most appealing to me. I love the colors and the small distinct details. Everything is so happy in the art, even including the Day of the Dead. A famous mexican artist that exemplifies these attributes is Frida Kahlo. Painting was Frida's life. She even was married to a famous artist, Diego Rivera. I do like the fact that she uses symbolism in all her paintings and sketches. Some of her stuff is a little weird though. Yet she does relate to her own suffering and sexuality in almost all of her work. Her pain was related to accident that happened when she was young. She was hit by a bus when riding her bike. Although after the accident she was able to walk again, she always encountered pain. So because of that she would paint it. She painted many self portraits. One i posted for example is her and the monkey. Although monkeys were a symbol of lust, Frida saw them as protective. She also portrayed her miscarriage in a lot of her paintings. I like how she used the symbolism because you know that her paintings are meaningful. You know that she put a lot of thought into each piece.

degas

Edgar Degas is one of the founders of impressionism. My favorite work from his was his drawings on dance and ballerinas. He basically painted this series because his brother was in depb and needed the money. His studies of the ballerinas are extremely elegant and mystical. They have a lot of motion in them. The ballerinas almost look like they are dancing on the canvas. The colors he used are also very dominant. The first picture i picked was "Ballet Class". The green atmosphere and lighting are reflected on to the ballerinas themselves. They seem like they are practicing for a recital. The old man must be the choreographer. But Degas do not just portray ballerinas practicing in the studio. He also depicted them dancing in the recitals as the crowd admires. as in the next painting I like called, Musicians in the Orchestra. I like the way he composed this piece. It is almost like we are in the crown, watching the recital. The colors he portrays on the pink ballerinas are luminous. In all i really love these paintings of his because the colors and the subjects.

Heinz Edelmann

Heinz Edelmann

My next artist i wanted to focus on was Heinz Edelmann. He is a German illustrator and designer. He created the graphic design for the famous Beatles movie, The Yellow Submarine. The Yellow Submarine was a famous movie in the 70's that followed the band the Beatles travels through a hallucinogenic viewpoint. Almost similar to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, yet a cartoon style. I really admirer Edelmann's creativity. He has created this fantasy-like world where bright colors jump out at you. Anything can happen near the yellow submarine. He even added the Beatles music to these moving mystical creatures. Even though he was ashamed of this artwork and made sure after the movie to move away from trippy designs, i really love his creativity. I like the basic and simple design of all the band members, yet their colors make the whole thing beautiful.

annie leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz

Annie Leibovitz is someone i look up to when it comes to fashion photography. She is an active photographer in Vogue Magazine. Her set ups and backgrounds of all her magazine articles amaze me. What really brought her into the Hollywood light was her famous photo-shoot with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Here she promised Lennon he would be on the cover of rolling stone. Originally the picture was just suppose to be on him by himself, then Ono joined and they decided to really express their love by being in the nude. This picture is not only famous because John was such a star, but only five hours later, John was shot and killed. My most favorite photo shoot she did was Alice in Wonderland, Vogue USA december 2003. In this article she photographed the model, Natalia Vodianova, as Alice in Wonderland. The pictures are fantasy- related and make Alice fashionable. She even includes the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld in the shoot. The photographs are interesting and magical. There are so many Annie Leibovitz photos that follow this exotic theme and thats why i feel like her photographs are such a success.

janet fish

Janet Fish was born into art. Her grandfather was a famous American Impressionist painter who introduced her to his love of painting. Janet was fascinated with the way glass, plastic and water reflect off light. As one knows, painting reflections are one of the hardest things to depict. When looking through glass, everything changes color yet still is similar to the actual object. Janet grew up with amazing surroundings to feed to her creativity. She grew up on the island of Bermuda. Here she probably lived in the water and learned to paint it perfectly. After just concentrating on still lives, she moved on the depict animals and people. A few of her famous ones are "Dog Days" and "Balloons". There is something whimsical about her pieces. They give off a happy and cheerful mood. Even though for example they are just bottles, they are so interesting. I have several times tried to copy her paintings. It is an extremely difficult task. Because of this, i respect her so much more.

Fred Tomaselli

Tomaselli was an artist i started researching in high school. I had search an artist who i thought most related to me. His artworks have so much more meaning to them then anyone would know. When first viewing them you would just see them as crazy eccentric pieces. But he is not just a painter but a mixed media artist. He uses cut out newspaper ads, images from magazines and cut out birds. But the one thing that drew me most to his work was that he uses medicinal herbs, prescription pills and hallucinogenic plants on the canvases to form this abnormal images. This became interesting to me because when you look at his work, you almost feel like your on one of these drugs. They are so interesting and seducing. Fred said, "It is my ultimate aim, to seduce and transport the viewer in to space of these pictures while simultaneosly revealing the mechanics of that seduction". Explosions of color and excitement only makes the viewer interested in more of his artwork. I also did many replicas of his art but in my own style and i enjoyed exploring his crazy ways.
