frida

Mexican art is most appealing to me. I love the colors and the small distinct details. Everything is so happy in the art, even including the Day of the Dead. A famous mexican artist that exemplifies these attributes is Frida Kahlo. Painting was Frida's life. She even was married to a famous artist, Diego Rivera. I do like the fact that she uses symbolism in all her paintings and sketches. Some of her stuff is a little weird though. Yet she does relate to her own suffering and sexuality in almost all of her work. Her pain was related to accident that happened when she was young. She was hit by a bus when riding her bike. Although after the accident she was able to walk again, she always encountered pain. So because of that she would paint it. She painted many self portraits. One i posted for example is her and the monkey. Although monkeys were a symbol of lust, Frida saw them as protective. She also portrayed her miscarriage in a lot of her paintings. I like how she used the symbolism because you know that her paintings are meaningful. You know that she put a lot of thought into each piece.

  1. Frida Kahlo was in the bus when the accident occurred... And there was no bike involved. Where did you get your information?
